In celebration of photography and friendship

Charles Weber, Photographer

This exhibition is the result of work carried out jointly with photographers I met on the occasion of the workshop "Flash and landscape" I gave in Australia, New Zealand and Vietnam.

The workshop was designed more for experimentation than for teaching, presenting the participants with a territory to be explored. Starting out with familiar experiments conducted by various photographers who used artificial light in shooting landscapes, we tried a little reconnaissance work of our own in this field, seeking new combinations and forms of expression.

During the course of this work, each individual experiment served to enrich the experience of the whole group and to strengthen our mutual respect and friendship.

Each following his own inclinations, we elected to light our scenes or reports by candle, flash or torch. It was an opportunity for us to leave the beaten track for a while and to face up to the challenges of light and colour.

After the workshop, some of us still felt the desire to pursue our quest, to remain in contact and to share our results.

This was the beginning of a two-year adventure which has now culminated in the present exhibition. What delights me in these pictures is the simple poetry which so well reveals and unites us, irrespective of any differences in cultures, opinions and technical resources.
